4 Things That Will Kill Your Cleaning Business

September 19, 20244 min read

Let’s cut the BS:

You can have a website, a cute logo, and all the best supplies on the market…
But if you're making
these four mistakes, your cleaning business will stay stuck, broke, and burned out.

I’ve seen it happen over and over — smart, hardworking women walk straight into these traps and wonder why their business isn’t growing.

The good news? Every single one of these is fixable. You just need to stop guessing, stop people-pleasing, and stop thinking your biz is different from any other business.

💥 Trap #1: Letting Fear Make Your Decisions

Fear is sneaky. It shows up as:

  • “What if I charge too much and they say no?”

  • “What if I can’t get enough clients?”

  • “There’s already too many cleaners in my town…”

Sound familiar?

Here’s the truth:
You either let fear run your business, or you run it like a boss.

Fear of failure? Focus on what’s possible.
Fear of uncertainty? Focus on what you
can control (your effort, your pricing & offer)
Fear of competition? Good. It means there’s
demand. Step up and show clients why you’re the best choice.

💥 Trap #2: Overcomplicating the Hell Out of Your Business

Business isn’t always easy.
But it is
always simple.

People either:

  • Don’t have time to clean

  • Don’t know how to clean

  • Or don’t want to clean

Your solution? You clean for them.

That’s it.

Stop trying to create 14 different packages, upsells, and specialty services before you’ve even built your core business.

Simplicity scales. Confusion kills.

💥 Trap #3: Offering Too Many Services

Here’s what I offered in my cleaning business: Standard Clean. Detailed Clean.
That’s it.

No window washing. No grout whitening. No pet sitting. No pressure washing.
If it requires a special machine or a new license? Not my job.

You are not Amazon Prime.
You don’t have to say yes to everything.

Every extra service you add drains your time, focus, and profit margin.
Specialization = better clients, better pricing, better results.

Pick what you’re amazing at.
Do it over and over. That’s how you scale without chaos.

💥 Trap #4: Making Emotional Decisions

This is the silent killer of most cleaners.
They panic… and start reacting instead of leading.

Here’s how it shows up:

🚨 You don’t get clients fast enough, so you panic and run Facebook ads (that go nowhere).
🚨 You assume people won’t pay your rates, so you drop your prices before anyone even asks.
🚨 A client gives you “the look,” and suddenly you’re cleaning their fridge for free.

Sound familiar?

When emotions drive your business, your income drives off a cliff.

The fix? Slow down. Breathe.
Make decisions based on
data and strategy, not insecurity.

One of the easiest places this shows up? Pricing.

And that’s why I created something that will fix that problem for good 👇

💸 Struggling with Pricing? This Will Fix It.

If you’ve been:

  • Charging too little because you’re scared to lose a client

  • Guessing what to quote and hoping it sounds “reasonable”

  • Getting ghosted after giving your rates…

It’s not you. It’s your strategy.

Grab my Flat Rate Confidence Guide — it shows you exactly how to price your cleaning services like a pro.

No hourly nonsense. No undercharging. No second-guessing.

This is the #1 mindset and money fix for solo cleaners who are tired of playing small.

👑 Final Thought:

Most cleaning businesses don’t fail because the owner can’t clean.
They fail because no one ever taught her how to
think like a business owner.

Avoid these four traps, and you’ll be 10 steps ahead of most people in this industry.

Now go lead your business like the boss you are💪❤️
