How To Make More Money In Your Cleaning Business

July 10, 20243 min read

Many will tell you you must do market research and have a business plan.

I'm going to tell you, you don't need to do either of these unless you are going to build out your business and hire employees. And even if that may be something you have thought about let me give it to you straight…start Solo and see if the cleaning  business is for you BEFORE you even think about hiring employees or subcontractors

Starting solo is the simplest way to start, and when you follow my system you can be set up and making money fast.

Now I want to mention I have owned my own successful cleaning business for more than 30 years, so you're getting information straight from someone who has actually started and ran a successful cleaning business. You want to take advice from someone who has the results you want…that's me!

Ok here are my recommendations:

  1. Start Solo:

As I've mentioned solo will be your best and fastes way to start making money, and with much less frustration, stree and expense. The lessons learned and the confidence gained from building something on your own can be invaluable. It empowers you to trust your instincts and take calculated risks, knowing that you are capable of overcoming obstacles.

  1. Learn to clean efficiently and effectively:

This is one of the biggest places many new cleaning business owners ot only lose money but work way more than they have to, eventually get frustrated and give up the business. Practice cleaning your own home and time how long it takes you to clean each room. Just remember cleaning your own house is Very different from cleaning a clients house and getting paid to clean.

  1. Clean for a friend or family member in exchange for a testimonial.

Not only are you gaining experience cleaning, and seeing if this is something you actually want to do but you may even get your first client. You should be charging for these cleanings but give them a 50% in exchange for testimonials. Remember to ask for feedback on your cleaning and DON'T take it personal, use this info to see how and where you need to improve.

  1. Keep supplies simple: You do not need 30 different cleaners and go running out and buy vacuums and mops. In my business I used my clients vacuums and mops for hygienic reasons. I recommend you do the same. All your cleaning supplies should fit in ONE bucket or caddy.

  1. Have cleaning checklists: Please don't skip these, it is so important to have a cleaning checklist, the most important one is to keep you and your client on the same page as to what is and more importantly what is Not getting cleaned. The checklists will also help you from thinking you have to clean everything.  Review the checklists with your friend/family member before you clean.

  1. Never charge by the hour: Always charge by the Job! This is so important to learn in the beginning.

I have given you a few things you can actually go out and try. But if you want to get started grab my free House Cleaning Business Start-Up Checklist Click Here to download your checklist.
